Light-induced dipole-dipole interaction is a universal phenomenon in almost all light-matter interacting systems. In this talk, with this underlying mechanism, I demonstrate a superior laser-cooling technique in trapped atoms, distinct electromagnetically-induced-transparency spectrum, and non-Hermitian skin modes in a two-dimensional atomic mirror. Our results provide new insights in cooling the atoms toward their motional ground states, nontrivial predictions of distinct optical response, and new opportunities in exploiting non-Hermitian nature of open quantum systems.
