The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) will obtain about 40 million spectra of stars, galaxies, and quasars in the next 5 years. It will produce the largest 3D map of matter distribution of the Universe, containing an unparalleled amount of information which will transform our understanding of the cosmic evolution of the Universe. In this talk, I will introduce the DESI survey and its key scientific goal, i.e. probing the nature of dark energy. I will present the methodology that DESI adopts and the astronomical objects that DESI observes for measuring the expansion rate of the Universe across cosmic time and constraining the equation of state of dark energy. Finally, if time permits, I will present the current status of the project and some of the scientific works using early DESI dataset at NTU.
