General Relativity as geometrodynamics with intrinsic time development will be presented.
Solution of the super-Hamiltonian constraint yields a non-vanishing Hamiltonian, a resolution of the 'problem of time’, and gauge-invariant temporal ordering in an ever-expanding closed universe. Einstein’s theory is a particular realization of a wider class of theories; and the framework prompts natural extensions and improvements, with the consequent dominance and implications of a Cotton–York term at early times when the universe was small.
