The light-atom interaction of three laser lights in the four-level system with ladder-V configuration is described by the master equation using the density matrix approach. Our calculation shows that the response of a weak probe laser in this system can be manipulated by the other two strong lasers. The profile of each constituent electromagnetically induced transparency system changes significantly as varying the intensity of the other controlling field. The relative strength between two control lasers determines the number of transparency and absorption dips within the absorption window. The switch between transparency and absorption of probe laser at its resonance or at certain frequency detunings obtained by controlling the driving field strength makes it possible for optical switching applications. We will also show the probe transmission in correspondence to the generated four-wave mixing signal of this system. These interesting responses and accompanying explanations will be demonstrated and discussed.
