Designing triboelectric nanogenerators and exploring the relationship between solid-liquid surface properties and output voltage

Over the last few decades, renewable energy harvesting has become a major issue as energy demand has grown. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) have proven to be cost effective and easy to manufacture powerful devices for harvesting mechanical energy and developing self-powered sensors and actuators. In this regard, solid–liquid triboelectric nanogenerators has recently received considerable attention. In this study, different concentrations of SiO2 were added to continuously vary the hydrophobicity of our surface, and it was found that the more hydrophilic the output voltage was, the lower the output voltage was. Surfactants were also added to give the droplets different properties to understand the practical applicability of the S-L TENG for energy harvesting in different surfaces.
